Fire, smoke, a shock or a fallen line: call 911 first.
Then follow the steps for your situation below. When everyone is safe, call us on (555) 010-0129.
Emergency steps
What to do first
- Step 1If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911.
- Step 2Never use water on an electrical fire.
- Step 3If there's no smoke and you can reach the panel safely, switch off the breaker for that area.
- Step 4Don't touch the outlet or plug. Call us once everyone is safe.
- Step 1Don't touch them if they may still be in contact with the source.
- Step 2Switch off the power at the panel, or unplug the device if it's safe to.
- Step 3Call 911, even if they seem fine.
- Step 4Keep everyone away from the source until it's checked.
- Step 1Stay well away, at least 30 feet, and keep others back.
- Step 2Assume it is live, even if it isn't sparking.
- Step 3Call 911 and your utility company.
- Step 4If a line falls on your car, stay inside unless there's fire.
- Step 1Don't walk through standing water if outlets or cords may be under it.
- Step 2If you can reach the panel while standing somewhere dry, switch off the main.
- Step 3If you can't, leave and call your utility to cut the power.
- Step 4Have every wet circuit checked before it's switched back on.
- Step 1Check whether neighbours have power. If not, report it to your utility.
- Step 2At the panel, find any breaker in the middle or off position.
- Step 3Push it fully off, then on, once. If it trips again, leave it off.
- Step 4Call us; a breaker that keeps tripping is doing its job.
